Early Language Programme

Supporting Early Language Development is a CPD programme developed by a group of English Hubs with support from Speech and Language UK.

The programme has been developed as part of a project to create a more consistent medium level support (MLS) offer across the English Hub network which will streamline workload for hubs and create more equal access to CPD on early language nationally for schools accessing support from hubs.  The programme will be exclusively available via English Hubs.

Supporting Early Language Development is a CPD programme developed by a group of English Hubs with support from Speech and Language UK.

The programme has been developed as part of a project to create a more consistent medium level support (MLS) offer across the English Hub network which will streamline workload for hubs and create more equal access to CPD on early language nationally for schools accessing support from hubs. The term ‘early language’ can be used to cover a number of different ages and stages from birth onwards.

The programme will be exclusively available via English Hubs.The five sessions are free of charge, but to be eligible, schools need to have a YR/KS1 provision and must commit to attending all of the sessions.

Targeted Training.

Focus on fluency: Yellow,Blue and Grey Storybooks

Supporting you to build children’sreading fluency

Our Targeted Training days focus on key areas of Read Write Inc. Phonics to deepenexpertise and impact. Get the teaching right and the number of children who needextra support will fall dramatically.

What will I learn?

  • To use half-termly assessment to assess fluency.
  • To support children’s fluency – exploring why children might be reading slowlyand discussing solutions.
  • To make the most of every teaching step in our Storybook reading activities –delving into the detail to make the biggest difference.

How will I learn it?

  • Watching live modelling and in-action films.
  • Practising every activity.
  • Receiving on the spot coaching.

Who is it for?

  • Reading Leader, Year 2 team and Yellow, Blue and Grey Storybook reading teachers.
  • Open to all schools using the phonics programme.
  • Ideal time: Summer 1 and 2.

Please note: To act on the training back in school, you will need phonics teaching resources and Phonics Online on OUP’s Oxford Owl. This give access to Teaching Handbook 2.

Films and resources from the Online Subscription are used throughout which is only available alongside trainer support as part of a Ruth Miskin Training Package.

 

Ensure your teaching & leading of this phonics programme is as good as it can be by attending our three reading leader days with Ruth Miskin Training These days will focus on one-to-one tutoring, getting to grips with graphemes and focusing on fluency respectively. We recommend attending all three days.

Reading Ambition for All  Programme

The Reading Ambition for All programme consists of 5 research-based professional development modules aimed at improving reading outcomes for children, including those with SEND.

Programme Aims:

  • Improve outcomes for children needing additional reading support.
  • Ensure quality-first teaching based on the latest research.
  • Utilize evidence-based strategies to enhance reading skills.
  • Promote adaptive teaching for children with SEND in mainstream settings.

Module Content:

  1. Guiding Principles: Teaching SEND in mainstream schools, including EEF guidance and understanding common SEND misconceptions.
  2. Understanding Needs: Ensuring access to learning, addressing barriers, and using assessments to support pupils.
