Key Stage 1: 2026-27 Support Offer
The English Hubs Programme continues to support schools in developing high-quality early reading provision in Reception and Key Stage 1, with a core focus on systematic synthetic phonics alongside early language and reading for pleasure. Strong early reading provision is essential to ensure that all pupils develop secure foundations in decoding and language, enabling them to access the wider curriculum and succeed as confident readers.
Our programme is designed to support schools in embedding effective SSP provision with fidelity, developing staff expertise, and improving outcomes for all pupils, particularly those most at risk of falling behind.
KS1 Programme Aims
• To support schools in embedding a high-quality SSP programme with fidelity and consistency
• To ensure early identification and targeted support for pupils at risk of falling behind
• To develop staff expertise in the teaching of early reading, including phonics, early language, and reading for pleasure
The Offer
Early Reading Reviews
• A funded audit of early reading provision to identify strengths and areas for development
• Supports schools in understanding their current practice and next steps
• Informs eligibility and readiness for further support
Intensive Support
• A bespoke, partnership-based programme tailored to each school
• Up to 12 fully funded days with a Literacy Specialist over two academic years, supporting the implementation of your chosen SSP
• Includes coaching, data analysis, and targeted support to identify and meet pupils’ reading needs
Resource Funding
• Partner Schools can receive up to £6,000 to support SSP implementation, including training and resources
• Schools are encouraged to match fund where possible and consider long-term sustainability when planning provision
